They are finally back!

They have started their journey from Western Africa back to their breeding sites in Lithuania two months ago and are back to Nemunas River delta now.
Ornithologist Zydrunas Preiksa says he heard one singing male last Sunday in Uostadvaris polder and three more in Sysa – the second most important breeding site for the globally threatened Aquatic Warbler population in Lithuania with around 50 singing males registered in 2010.

"It is fairly difficult to see them now. The birds are not very active yet and  start singing only well after the sunset", – Preiksa says.

According to the researcher, the birds must have returned only recently, as the water retreated from the meadows just a few days ago. In couple of weeks their song should be heard much louder.

The information about their nesting places and population this year will be much more accurate after the monitoring planned by the Baltic Environmental Forum Lithuania this June will be completed.
