The second season of habitat restoration works in Nemunas delta coming

Tractors work in Nemunas Delta. Hay harvesting is into full swing - in some cases mowing takes place for the second time already. Meanwhile, in some plots birds instead of machinery toil. They are intensively searching for food for growing and constantly hungry juveniles. These meadows are not mowed – farmers wait till the chicks grow and be able to escape from the equipment. In those areas where people are taking care of rare Aquatic warbler, mowing begins only in the second half of August.

Team of the project "Creation of mechanisms to secure good quality of open habitats in Nemunas Delta Regional Park” is waiting for this date as well. They will start the second mowing season in the areas important for Aquatic warbler and other species. Last year they were able to mow only part of habitats planned, so this year the works will continue.

While waiting the mowing period, works do not stop. The project team like the birds is actively growing it’s "babies" - 38 publications about flourishing life and exclusivity of Nemunas Delta. In autumn, publications will “land” in the hands of local people, invite them to get acquainted with species living nearby without its’ disturbance and give solutions for a peaceful coexistence.

Increasing Aquatic warbler population inspires conservationists for their work.
