The project aim is to conduct inventories of marine species and habitats in the offshore waters of Lithuanian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Baltic Sea and designate Natura 2000 areas selected during site evaluation. Baltic Environmental Forum Lithuania is coordinating activities related to public awareness raising.

Project activities

  • Habitat, fish and bird inventory based on field surveys in the project areas will be carried out in order to collect all the necessary data for identification and spatial distribution of the habitats and species;
  • Site evaluation (integration of data on important biological features and potential/existing human impacts will be used for development of recommendations on further EEZ spatial planning, EIA procedures and valuation of marine environment);
  • Legal designation of NATURA 2000 sites;
  • Designation of Natura 2000 sites;
  • Public awareness raising and dissemination: project website, setup of exposition in the Lithuanian Sea Museum, Layman’s report, Handbook on marine natural values.
