Baltic States Regional Co-operation Programme for Natura 2000 (BANAT)
The project was set-up to assist the three Baltic Ministries of Environment in the implementation of the requirements of the Birds and Habitats Directives and development of the Natura 2000 Network. It was also meant to support the countries in the negotiation process with the European Commission on the Annexes of both Directives.
Project activities
- Information and discussion on implementation of EU nature conservation policy;
- Site management, species/habitat management problems, monitoring;
- Transboundary cooperation and management of sites along the borders;
- Awareness raising among stakeholder group & integration of nature conservation issues into other policy fields;
- Training for nature conservation administration in public hearings
